Friday Catch-Up: Ancotel, Integra, Level 3, Equinix

Friday again.  Time to play some catch up on the news this week:

We learned a bit more about the European expansion of abvt with this announcement that the fiber operator has selected ancotel’s Frankfurt facility at Kleyer 90 as part of its expansion in the city.  Abovenet formally kicked off its expansion across the English Channel last month, and Kleyer 90’s high level of interconnection with other international carriers made it an obvious target.  Ancotel itself expanded to Long Island earlier this year.

In a minor M&A out in Phoenix, Integra Telecom (news, filings) announced that it is buying the local exchange customers of Sharenet Communications.  This is the second move recently the company has made recently in Phoenix, having added connectivity to i/o Phoenix last month.  It’s a key market for them and clearly they are seeking to add scale.  Transition of the customers should be complete by the end of the year.

Level 3 Communications (NYSE:LVLT, news, filings) and one of its European master resellers, Stream UK, announced a live streaming solution for enterprise customers.  The service uses adaptive bit rate streaming over HTTP and eliminates the firewall configuration issues that corporate environments often present.  It leverages Level 3’s CDN network, Stream UK’s webcasting tools, and of course the Adobe Flash Platform.

And also in Europe, Equinix (NASDAQ:EQIX, news, filings) won a contract with GlobalCollect.  The online payment service provider plans to relocate its platform to Equinix’s Amsterdam IBX.  In order to accommodate growth and optimize uptime and response time, they are moving from a managed services approach to colocation.
