Lightyear Signs Up With XO

September 21st, 2010 by · 13 Comments

lyns announced today that it has signed a multi-year carrier services contract with XO Holdings (news, filings).  Via this agreement, Lightyear will be able to leverage XO’s Dedicated Internet Access and Ethernet Private Line services as it expands its capabilities nationwide.  Teaming up with XO’s backbone seems like a logical move for Lightyear, as XO has been an aggressive wholesaler over the past few years.  But I doubt it’s exclusive, Lightyear has always partnered with a variety of carriers to serve its customer base.

Lightyear went public via a reverse merger earlier this year, and subsequently announced their intention to acquire their way to greater scale.  Thus far they have agreed to acquire Southeast Telephone in rural Kentucky, but we haven’t heard anything further.  Ah well, these things take time.  But because XO’s densest assets lie in Tennessee which borders on Lightyear’s Kentucky home turf, I wonder if that didn’t give them some extra reason to work out this agreement.

Revenues in the second quarter were $11.3M, basically flat with the prior quarter.  I’m still watching these guys to see where things settle down to.

Do I buy a new TV or a majority stake in XO at 59 cents a share?

I brought my lunch to work today and took the money I saved from eating out to purchase 5% of the company.

The TV will be worth more in 3 years….

Why so many hater’s? Everyone has been predicting XO’s demise for past few years and they are still alive. XO must be doing something right.

  • Hey XO employees...... says:

Are there any XO employees on this board who have actually bought their company’s stock over the past 2 years?

I am getting quite fed up with the XO babbling as well. Such comments might be applicable to XO financial reports, but keep the crap out of sales and tech related articles.

Maybe Icahn can merge xo with Blockbuster so as to have a network and a rental chain that no one uses. Then, they can roll-in US Robotics (for 56k modem technology) and lastly add in a division that sells refurbished Sony walkmans… Get it?

HQ would be at the Stratosphere in LV.

  • anon says:

accept he sold Stratosphere, guess he could buy it back like he does a lot of other assets

Kind of comical to see a bunch of CLEC/fiber telecom people lecture Icahn on how to make money…. now for a lecture on how to incinerate billions upon billions of investors cash…

    • Rob Powell says:

From a making money point of view, perhaps. But from the perspective of shareholders rights, telecom folk have a right to a rather jaded view of Icahn’s other activities.

  • XO watch says:

No one is lecturing Icahn on making money (to the contrary, we are noticing his money-making). He “made his money” here when he bought NOL’s at a step discount. We are now in the 2 year wait it out phase before the NOL’s can be separated & applied to benefit of a (non-XO) business that makes taxable income. The confusion is that some folks think XO is run as a (17th place) CLEC, as opposed to a 1st rate tax shelter
