In Other News: CENX, NTT, Integra, i/o Datacenters

When the larger competitive carriers report earnings, other news tends to get drowned out around here.  That can’t be helped, but we can at least catch up.  Here are a few interesting items that have come up in the past few days:

CENX added another puzzle piece to its Carrier Ethernet Exchange business in the form of off-net SLA monitoring using gear from EXFO.  This attempts to address a key question that service providers face when going off-net – how to manage service quality.  By centralizing the implementation, CENX hopes to enhance its role as matchmaker and increase the trust its customers can place in each other so that they will do more business.  Seems like a good idea, I wonder if Equinix and Neutral Tandem have similar plans in the works.

NTT America has added a storage platform to its cloud portfolio, entitled Cloud Files, which includes enterprise-class security, high-availability, and of course usage based pricing.  NTT America continues to put in place the pieces needed to compete in the cloud space, with this latest offering sounding rather similar to similar services from Amazon and Rackspace.

Integra Telecom has a new COO.  The Northwestern competitive service provider has promoted Steve Wachter to executive vice president and chief operating officer.  Mr. Wachter, who came to the company in the Eschelon acquisition, will be overseeing all the customer facing operations of local network management, customer care, and sales across Integra’s 11 state service area.

And i/o Datacenters has announced its next generation datacenter platform, i/o ANYWHERE.  The idea is to offer everything one needs for an always-on, outsourced datacenter in one streamlined package, i.e. primary and backup power generation, power conditioning, cooling and network connectivity, and fully integrated monitoring of everything.  Of course, you have to want to have your data in Phoenix, but that is a growing datacenter hub these days.

    rob,

i work at i/o and wanted to clarify that the i/o ANYWHERE platform is location neutral. our customers can deploy this fully-integrated modular data center anywhere they need it globally.

i would be happy to address any questions you may have about this latest innovation from i/o’s engineering and product development team.

    thank you.
