Irish Broadcaster RTÉ Rides Hibernia Media

May 24th, 2010 by · Leave a Comment

Irish public service broadcaster RTÉ has selected Hibernia Media for high performance network capacity.  RTÉ will leverage services from Hibernia for secure connectivity to the media hubs around Europe and in North America from which it pulls international content for its programs.  More specifically, they will use the company’s video transport network to bring high quality video feeds from places like the European Parliament in Brussels, the BT Tower in London, and of course across the pond in Washington DC.

Hibernia Media is of course the new name for MediaXstream, the DTM video service provider started by industry veteran Del Bothof and purchased over the winter by Hibernia Atlantic.  Bothof, who now holds the position of President of Hibernia Media, offered the following quote:

“Global media production and broadcast entities demand high performance, and our diverse network backbone offers RTÉ high availability routes to source media services from Europe and the United States. And notably, the contract with RTÉ with RTE also extends Hibernia Media’s footprint further into Europe, offering more global connections and network diversity.”

Hibernia Media so far had just extended into the UK, but of course Hibernia Atlantic’s network itself has a loop as far east as Frankfurt and therefore this expansion is likely on that infrastructure.  But I do wonder if Hibernia’s expansion will take them to other spots on the continent as it has here in North America.
