I have added another page to my longhaul maps collection for Latin America, i.e. everything from Mexico and the Bahamas on southward to Cape Horn. There tends to be a greater dependence on submarine versus terrestrial fiber in much of this region – fiber backbones over the Andes and through the Amazon are rare except for between Argentina and Chile. There tend to be national or even simply regional networks strung together with submarine capacity, with Mexico being the notable exception because it can hook up directly to the major US backbones.
This is a difficult region for me because a) I know far less about these fiber assets, and b) my memories of high school Latin classes are of marginal help in deciphering modern Spanish and Portuguese. Either that, or these companies are just less likely to publish a public map on their website for some reason. Therefore, this page begins its life at a lower level of completion than its brothers and sisters, and hopefully the Telecom Ramblings community will help me fill in a few blanks as they have done with my other map collections. Suggestions and corrections are therefore very welcome!
