Two data center projects, some 5G SA progress, and a bit of caution:
Aligned Data Centers has broken ground on a major new facility out in the southwestern US. The new facility, PHX-13, will be on the company’s Glendale campus in the Phoenix metro area. The 72MW facility will be the fourth on the 100 acre campus. They are also bringing in a 230kV transmission line from Arizona Public Service.
Khazna Data Centers is expanding its footprint in the UAE. Looking to further prepare for the AI revolution, the company has broken ground on two new facilities in Abu Dhabi. AUH4 will be in Mafraq and AUH8 will be in Masdar City, adding 60MW of capacity and complementing the 100MW QAJ1 in Ajman they are already working on. The projects are due for completion in the second half of 2026.
Ericsson has teamed up with Vodafone Germany and A1 Bulgaria to establish a 5G Standalone international roaming connection. The achievement leverages technology from Ericsson’s core networks group to improve the roaming experience for customers of both European carriers. Specifically they were able to support an A1 Bulgaria subscriber’s voice and data connectivity on Vodafone Germany’s network.
And another indication of a slight cooling of the AI data center craze came out yesterday. CNBC reports that Amazon has ‘delayed some commitments’ when it comes to its data center leases, particularly outside of the US. The move seems to parallel Microsoft’s recent caution in the wake of economic uncertainty and stock market volatility. The company itself hasn’t said anything, but the article references a note from analysts at Wells Fargo.
