Friday Roundup: Bloom, Equinix, DataVolt, T5, Brightspeed, Cisco, Arelion

Plenty of infrastructure news from around the industry this week to catch up with:

Bloom Energy has revealed an expanded relationship with Equinix. The global data center operator will be using more than 100MW of power from Bloom’s fuel cell technology across 19 of its IBX facilities. Some 75MW of that is already operational, with 30MW under construction, offering diversity from the grid.

DataVolt has agreed to land lease terms with MODON, which a.k.a. The Saudi Authority for Industrial Cities and Technology Zones. The agreement is the first step of DataVolt’s development of a facility on 55,000 square meters in First Technology Park in eastern Riyadh. DataVolt’s plans call for $5B of investment in the country.

T5 Data Centers says they have raised more funding for their expansion plans from QuadReal Property Group. Now totaling $8B, QuadReal’s investment in the joint venture started with $2.5B in 2019. The plans call for some 5GW of total capacity across the country, most recently starting with a site outside Chicago.

Brightspeed has been busy out in Indiana. The broadband provider says it is now ready to connect 60K locations across 30 markets across the state. They plan to add another 65K homes passed over the next several years. Brightspeed’s footprint touches 20 states.

Arelion has been testing out Cisco’s 800G ZR+ coherent optical modules. They recently demonstrated an 800Gbps IP transmission over 1,069km using the pluggables between Stockholm, Sweden and Hamburg, Germany. The use of 800Gb ZR+ pluggables could cut capex by 66% and opex by 95%.
