A new data center, a new subsea cable, a new branch, and some FTTH:
CapitaLand Investment has some big data center plans for Osaka, Japan. CLI, which is 52% owned by Singapore’s Temasek, says it has acquired land in the city upon which it plans to build out some 50MW of capacity. The buildout will cost some $700M in total investment and target, of course, demand from AI. When complete, CLI will have 27 data centers across Asia and Europe in its portfolio.
Ooredoo has plans for a new subsea cable in the Persian Gulf. The Fibre in Gulf cable system, or FIG, will connect all the GCC countries of Qatar, Oman, the UAE, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Iraq via a secure, lower-latency route and up to 24 fiber pairs. The newly independent Alcatel Submarine Networks will handle the manufacture and installation.
Sparkle’s BlueMed cable will be landing in Cyprus. They have signed an agreement with Cyta to connect BlueMed to Cyta’s landing station in Yeroskipos. BlueMed connects Italy with France, Greece, and several other countries and is part of the Blue & Raman systems built with Google. The new branch will add diversity to Cyprus’s connectivity.
And in the UK CityFibre has completed its primary buildout in Bracknell, reaching 30K+ homes or 83% of the town’s properties. Bracknell sits about 15km southwest of Slough to the west of the London metro area. CityFibre has spent £20m over the past four years, and says it will continue to densify the network.
