The western Caribbean could be getting some new subsea fiber infrastructure soon. Sparkle has joined Gold Data and Liberty Networks to construct and commercialize the MANTA regional system.
As currently envisioned, MANTA will connect Colombia and Panama with Mexico and the USA. In Mexico it would land at Cancun and Veracruz where it would link up over to Queretaro, while in Florida it would hit both the usual hub of Miami and the diverse option of Apalachee on the state’s Gulf Coast. In all the cable will be 5,600km in length and support 20Tbps per fiber pair.
Gold Data and Liberty Networks had already combined their proposed GD-1 and LN-1 systems, and now Sparkle will be the third partner. If all goes well the project could be ready by 2027. Bringing on the technology provider to build the cable itself is the next step.

The lack of diversity in the Gulf and the Caribbean has always baffled me.
