Metro Bytes: Light Source, PRIME FiBER, Verizon Business, Lightpath

Four bits of regional connectivity from this week’s infrastructure news:

Light Source Communications has announced an expansion of its dark fiber footprint in Tulsa, Oklahoma. They will be adding two new rings and a total of 80 route miles to their network in the Tulsa metro area, adding to the 50 route miles they already have in place. The buildout will be complete by the end of next year and will be used to meet anticipated demand from AI services. LSC is also in the middle of an expansion in Phoenix, Arizona.

PRIME FiBER has signed an agreement with AT&T for fiber in Bonita Springs and Naples, Florida. AT&T will be an anchor tenant on PRIME’s wholesale open access FTTH platform. PRIME is the sister company of NOVOS FiBER and is backed by InLight Capital. The company says it plans to invest $50M in its Florida footprint.

Verizon Business will be providing connectivity to the South Carolina Army National Guard (SCARNG). The wireless contract covers 1,000 lines of service as well as access to the Verizon Frontline Crisis Response Team. SCARNG provides emergency assistance on-demand for domestic emergencies and other special situations.

And in the northeast, Lightpath says it has deployed what it bills as the industry’s first protected optical circuit using pluggables. Working with a hyperscale customer, they provided the 200 mile circuit via geographically diverse paths, traversing about 8 PoPs on each side. The deployment uses Ciena’s WaveLogic 5 Nano coherent pluggable optics.
