Four regional infrastructure projects of note at midweek:
FiberLight has won an interesting E-Rate deal down in the Texas panhandle. Fiberlight will be providing a 10Gbps network for the Region 16 Education Service Center. Region 16, which surrounds Amarillo, is made up of 60 school districts and 3 charter schools with some 226 campuses serving 80K students and 11K teachers and staff. FiberLight hopes to use the infrastructure to target other regional opportunities as well.
US Signal has acquired some new infrastructure in Michigan. They have purchased a data center in Auburn Hills, their third in the Detroit metro area. The Detroit North Data Center adds 76K square feet and 4MW of available power to their portfolio, with room to expand the latter to 8MW. The company also plans to add 6 miles of fiber to connect the facility to their other infrastructure.
Vexus Fiber has officially expanded its FTTH footprint into a new slice of the southwestern US. They have launched symmetric bandwidth services in Las Cruces, New Mexico of 150Mbps to 5Gbps. The buildout, which started in February, init8ially connects some 400 homes and businesses, with a target of 44K over time. Vexus, which is part of Metronet, also operates in parts of Texas and Louisiana.
And Verizon is collaborating with the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks for the upcoming 2024-25 season. They have become the official 5G wireless partner for the State Farm Arena. As part of the project they have already added 4G LTE and 5G Ultra Wideband coverage to the venue, leveraging millimeter wave spectrum among other things.
