Tuesday Bytes: Comcast Business, Breezeline, ielo

June 25th, 2024 by · Leave a Comment

A bit of satellite and a bit more FTTH news from the start of this week:

Comcast Business is reaching into Low Earth Orbit via a strategic partnership with Starlink. The idea is to add Starlink’s satellite connectivity to their Managed Connectivity portfolio. LEO satellite bandwidth has grown up in recent years, and will enable Comcast Business to serve enterprises with locations in underserved regions as well as generally add network redundancy.

Breezeline is taking its FTTH expansion into the New Hampshire town of Laconia. Laconia lies between Lake Winnipesaukee and Lake Winnisquam in the Lakes Region to the south of the White Mountains. Breezeline says the move is the start of a wider upgrade project across their footprint. Breezeline is owned by Cogeco, and has a footprint that spans some 13 states along the East Coast and the Midwest.

And the French fiber provider ielo has raised a bundle of financing as it looks toward its next phase of growth. Backed by DIF Capital Partners, ielo has closed on €208M in senior debt financing from a group of vendors as well as a further uncommitted accordion facility. ielo’s footprint touches 3,300 municipalities across France, with which it caters to 400+ wholesale customers.
