Int’l Bytes: STACK, CMC Networks, Ericsson, Aqua Comms

A few other items from around the world this week to catch up with:

STACK Infrastructure’s plans in Japan got a little bigger this week. They have expanded their partnership with ESR, creating a joint venture to develop a 72MW data center in Osaka. Construction will begin on the first three buildings in Q4 of 2023, and will be ready in Q2 of 2025. The two companies are also working together on a 48MW facility over in the Korean city of Incheon.

CMC Networks has introduced dedicated internet access services across 51 countries on the continent of Africa. Their DIA solution is called IP Premier and offers symmetrical upload/download of up to 10Gbps. The roll-out will help enable more reliable SD-WAN overlay capabilities in African markets.

Ericsson is selling off its IoT Accelerator and Connected Vehicle Cloud businesses. California-based Aeris has agreed to acquire the divisions, which serve some 9,000 enterprises to connect 95M connected devices and 6M vehicles globally, putting Aeris’s total connected IoT devices above 100M. When the transaction closes in Q1, the associated Ericsson employees will also move over to Aeris.

And Aqua Comms will soon be getting a new CEO, and it’ll be a familiar face to readers. Jim Fagan will move over from GCX, where he is currently chief strategy and revenue officer, to head up Aqua Comms. He’ll take over from current CEO Nigel Bayliff. According to Capacity, Bayliff has other currently unreported plans elsewhere in the industry. I’m sure we’ll hear about that soon enough. The transition won’t take place until April 30, 2023 though.
