Metro Bytes: Zayo, Accelecom, WANRack, OpticalTel, Dobson

Five interesting items focused on regional and metro projects and events around the US:

Zayo is increasing its efforts in the education vertical with the launch of ENA Ally. It’s a followup to their acquisition of ENA six months ago, crystallizing a tightly focused piece of the company’s portfolio. Zayo hopes that ENA Ally will enable them to better interface with school districts and bring their broad experience to bear.

Accelecom has tapped Fujitsu Network Communications to help its broadband expansion efforts in Kentucky. Fujitsu supplied not only the gear but also the network systems integration to turn up the statewide network, which is based on dark fiber from KentuckyWired. The buildout involved 21 new huts to house optical gear, and will target enterprises, carriers, and regional government entities.

WANRack has found a new market to take it’s E-Rate expertise to. They will be building a network for Hampton City Schools. Hampton sits across the mouth of the James River from Norfolk. Construction on the upgraded infrastructure will start this Spring and should be complete by January 2024. The school district will see its monthly bill cut by more than half.

Antin Infrastructure Partners has found a new infrastructure play to invest in . They have acquired a majority interest in Florida-based OpticalTel, their sixth investment through their mid cap fund. OpticalTel specializes in providing broadband via bulk residential contracts to customers with homeowners associations and similar entities. The transaction, which should close in early 2023, will enable OpticalTel to futher its expansion.

And Dobson has lined up yet another new market for expansion. They will be building out in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. They’ll be deploying the new network via geographic zones, offering as much as 10Gbps per second. Dobson has 11 markets in service in Oklahoma and 3 in Arkansas, with another 13 towns and cities on deck.
