Tuesday Roundup: Yondr, Africa Data Centres, IXPN, Nxtra, Bloom, Infinera

Three data center moves, each from a different continent, and some 5G rollout prep in southeast Asia:

Yondr Group is making a major move into a second German data center market. They have announced plans for a multiple-facility campus in Ragow near Berlin, with the first phase delivering 10MW of capacity sometime in 2024. The new campus at full buildout is envisioned to support some 42MW of space.

Africa Data Centres’ plans for expansion across Africa gained some new help this week. They are teaming up with IXPN, the Nigerian internet exchange specialist, to develop an ecosystem in support of enterprises and other organizations. Africa Data Centres began a push last year to build 10 hyperscale facilities across 10 African countries over the space of two years, investing $500M or so.

Nxtra Data Limited, the data center subsidiary of Bharti Airtel, has tapped Bloom Energy to help power its data center in Karnataka, India. According to the release, it’s the first fuel cell technology deployment in India, reducing carbon emissions. Nxtra plans to start out feeding it non-combusted natural gas, and in the future switch over to 50% hydrogen.

And Infinera is helping out Viettel with its 5G rollout across Vietnam. Viettel will be using Infinera’s OTC2.0 solution for synchronization ahead of its 5G pilot rollout. The upgraded synchronization capabilities are necessary to meet the performance criteria needed by 5G applications across the company’s national DWDM footprint.
