Two new products, a big bandwidth trial, and a new customer:
Windstream Wholesale has added managed spectrum to its portfolio. They have unveiled the new architecture solution via their ICON network, offering dedicated blocks of photonic capacity. They trialed this capability back in March with Colt on an 1800km route between between Chicago and Ashburn. Colt has now purchased three routes, the original trial route as well as Ashburn-Secaucus and Chicago to NYC.
Lumen continues to expand its efforts out at the edge. Yesterday they launched Lumen Edge VM, with which they can now offer virtual machines to the business community as=-a-service. Lumen leverages its own facilities around the country to host the infrastructure, and already has complementary orchestration and public cloud services in place.
Nokia has gotten some testing done with the help of Telekom Serbia and MTEL. Over 600km of fiber between Banja Luka and Belgrade they have tested a 600Gbps line rate via their 1830 PSS family of gear. The trial leveraged 6 spans through C-F ROADM nodes. Telekom Serbia will be deploying the equipment in two new regional rings.
And Hurricane Electric is providing some connectivity for Telinta. Telinta offers cloud-based softswitch and billing platform solutions to the VoIP community. The company will leverage HE’s global IPv6 backbone to add redundancy and capacity.
