OAC Gets Its Final Splice

July 5th, 2022 by · Leave a Comment

Australia’s bandwidth ecosystem is one step closer to having a new route to the rest of the world. SUBCO has announced the completion of the final splice on the Oman Australia Cable, an express system that will offer faster speeds between the continent and the EMEA region.

When ready for service in September of this year, OAC will connect the western Australian city of Perth with the port of Muscat in Oman. From there connectivity will be available via other cable systems to Marseille and Milan such as AAE-1. Meanwhile SUBCO’s Indigo West and Central cables will provide connectivity from Perth to Sydney and to Singapore.

OAC’s new route bypasses both India and Singapore, taking a new route across the Indian Ocean. That will provide diversity to the region’s overall infrastructure. SubCom has been handling the heavy lifting when it comes to laying the actual cable of course, and the cable came ashore in Oman at the end of April.
