Fiber Roundup: Infinera, GlobalConnect, Lightpath, Horizon, Windstream

Some network expansion and upgrade news to catch up on:

Infinera’s 800G technology has won over a new convert. GlobalConnect Carrier has deployed Infinera’s ICE6 gear across a 770km route between Stockholm and Malmö over an existing third-party line system. They have also deployed it over their regional footprint in Sweden which is built off of Infinera’s XTM metro/regional packet optical gear.

Lightpath says it has connected its 2,000th wireless tower. The company has more than doubled its on-net wireless sites over the past 12 months. Some of that came in support of their first wireless custome up in Boston, where the company has been aggressively building out a new metro footprint.

Horizon is taking its FTTH expansion into another Ohio market. They have added Johnstown just to the northeast of Columbus to the company’s list of buildouts. The plan calls for 24 route miles of new fiber that will pass 1,674 homes and businesses. We had Horizon CEO Jim Capuano here for a spotlight in October, where he offered insight into the company’s plans.

And Windstream Wholesale’s T-Rock Express fiber buildout is getting some additional length. The Tulsa-Little Rock project will now extend its new 432-count fiberoptic cable to Memphis as well. The original piece is on schedule to be ready in August, while this new piece will be ready by the second half of 2023. Windstream has multiple intercity fiber expansions ongoing currently.
