A few interesting deployments and partnerships from around the world from the last day or two:

PCCW has tapped Infinera to increase its capacity on the PEACE subsea cable system in the Mediterranean. The PEACE cable will connect France with India and eastern Africa via the Red Sea, and the portion between Marseille and Abu Talat/Cyprus just went online this past week. PCCW is leveraging Infinera’s ICE technology to reach 650Gbps per wavelength, enabling up to 25Tbps per fiber pair.

Windstream Enterprise is taking its UCaaS solution beyond North America. Their OfficeSuite UC technology has now been made available in multiple markets across Europe and Asia Pacific. The expansion is aimed at Windstream Enterprise’s US-based customers with international needs, enabling remote work from global locations.

The EASSy submarine cable system is getting an upgrade courtesy of Ciena. EASSy is leveraging Ciena’s coherent optical platform and supporting technology to double its capacity to 36Tbps while adding intelligence and efficieny to its operations. EASSy connects markets along the eastern and southern coasts of Africa.

And according to Capacity this morning, DE-CIX is making a move into Iraq. The IX specialist has signed a strategic partnership with Iraq-IXP to develop an interconnection platform for the country. Iraq IXP hopes to localise internet traffic within Iraq and position the country as a potential global hub.
