Nokia Enable’s DE-CIX’s 800GE Plans

December 17th, 2021 by · 1 Comment

DE-CIX has tapped Nokia to upgrade its IX in Frankfurt, Germany. The IX provider is moving to equip its infrastructure with the ability to support 800GE with Nokia’s latest routing technology.

They are upgrading three of their edge routers in Frankfurt with the installation of the Nokia 7750 SR-14. Nokia recently added new features that include that 800GE support as well as a reduction in power consumption. The upgrade process will start before the end of this year, with completion expected sometime in Q2 of 2022. DE-CIX

Frankfurt is of course the company’s oldest, biggest IX fabric, and one of the granddaddies of the modern IX business. With 1100 connected networks and peak traffic of nearly 11Tbps, they always need to be keeping up with the world’s ever-growing appetite for bandwidth.

DE-CIX and Nokia have had a long working relationship of course.  Way back when DE-CIX first launched the Apollon interconnection platform back in 2013, it was based on Alcatel-Lucent’s 7950 XRS router.
