Four bits of expansion news on two continents to keep up with:
Ezee Fiber is taking its fiber to the Montgomery County Hospital District down in the greater Houston, Texas metro area. I Squared’s Ezee bought ICTX WaveMedia over the summer, giving them 2000 route miles of fiber in the metro area. With this new contract an existing ring will be extended to better served multiple PSAPs, also getting closer to other potential opportunities in Montgomery County, which lies to the north of Houston itself.
Also down in the greater Houston metroplex, FiberLight has partnered with Encompass North America. The metro and regional fiber operator’s network is connecting a data center and three towers that power high speed internet access in the markets of Fulsheer, Wallis, and Simonton, just west of Houston. Encompass is using fixed wireless technology to reach communities beyond the reach of FTTH buildouts.
Segra is expanding its product set up the stack a bit. They have launched a new Hosted Voice with Webex product, expanding their UC capabilities with some additional collaboration. They are using Cisco’s Webex technology to reach more small and medium businesses across their eastern regional fiber footprint.
And UFINET is taking aim at the metro markets of Ecuador down in South America. The Latin American fiber operator is investing $250M and partnering with the local telco Nedetel to bring bandwidth to rural areas of the country. The expansion will include a new data center in Guayaquil and will offer support to local ISPs.
