Ziply Builds Out More Silicon Forest Infrastructure

Ziply’s expansion projects up in the Pacific Northwest aren’t limited to FTTH markets, apparently. Yesterday the operator unveiled a new metro ring in Oregon and added redundant dark fiber up to Seattle as well, continuing the expansion of its regional infrastructure.

Ziply has installed 61km of 864-count fiber and 31km of 1728-count fiber to connect 11 data center facilities in Hillsboro as well as downtown Portland. The company’s ‘Silicon Forest Ring’ will enable the company to offer high density interconnections, cloud connectivity, and neutral access to their regional and longhaul assets to the wholesale and enterprise markets.

In addition, they have added a redundant route north from the Portland/Hillsboro area north to Seattle, giving them the ability to offer fully diverse high-capacity waves between the two markets. That offers more ways to bypass key choke points in the region.

The Hillsboro/Portland area has been seeing higher than usual infrastructure investment of late from a variety of fiber operators lately. MOX and Windstream Wholesale both completed significant investments in infrastructure in the area in recent months, and Telia Carrier added a PoP with Flexential as well.  According to Data Center Frontier, Facebook (or should I say Meta) is said to be planning a large expansion in the region, and QTS has been looking to boost its renewable energy resources to meet demand.
