A subsea effort that almost slipped past me, some data center energy news, and a new PoP:
Digital 9 Infrastructure, which recently acquires Aqua Comms, is investing in a new submarine/terrestrial cable system alongside “a leading global content provider and consortium”. D9 is putting £50m behind the Europe Middle-East India Connect 1 (EMIC-1) cable system, which if the name is to be believed will connect Europe with India via the Middle East. The actual path was not specified, though I’m sure details will emerge over time. Assuming the the project comes off, Aqua Comms will have the job of marketing and operating the cable.
Vantage Data Centers is making a move to net zero carbon emissions. That hyperscale data center operator says it intends to achieve that status globally by 2030. That effort will include both emissions from the company’s own on-site generators, the use of grid energy from renewable sources, influence over the energy usage of the company’s supply chain, and carbon offsets where no other option is available.
Gulf Bridge International is expanding its reach into some infrastructure close to home. They are adding a new PoP within Equinix’s MC1 data center in Oman, building upon a relationship that has them in Equinix facilities in Frankfurt and Amsterdam. GBI’s core asset connects the countries of the Persian Gulf, from which it has expanded its influence to hook up with Europe, India, and Southeast Asia. Equinix and Omantel teamed up to open MC1 just last year.
