Fiber M&A: Wave Makes a Deal For Digital West

January 27th, 2021 by · Leave a Comment

Wave Broadband has made a deal out on the coast.  The northwestern network operator is acquiring Digital West in a deal that adds some new territory along the southern edge of its footprint in northern California.

Digital West operates fiber assets in and around the Central Coast region of California, which is where you can find Big Sur, Monterey, and San Louis Obispo. That last one is home to various submarine cable landings of course. I have not managed to find a map of the company’s fiber assets in the region, but Digital West focuses on business and enterprise connectivity across the region, something it got started with back in 1999.

Digital West and Wave seem quite complementary, and the integration of the former’s local expertise seems likely to be pretty smooth. Digital West will become part of Wave Business Solutions. Wave is one leg of Astound Broadband alongside RCN, Grande, and enTouch. Astound itself is currently in the process of being purchased from TPG by Stonepeak, a deal that is expected to close next quarter.
