Thursday Roundup: Windstream, DE-CIX, DZS, VIAVI, RtBrick

An IX expansion, some UC regulatory support, a vendor M&A, a 5G testing partnership, and some cloud-based routing:

DE-CIX India continues to add depth to its internet exchange infrastructure. This morning they revealed four new PoPs: two in Mumbai at NetMagic DC6 and DC 7, and two in Delhi at Web Werks Delhi NCR and Sify Noida. DE-CIX India now connects some 310+ networks across its fabric, and says it has seen a 192% increase in traffic over the last 10 months. They now have PoPs in 15 data centers across the country.

Windstream Enterprise has brought its voice and UC solutions up to snuff with RAY BAUM’s Act. That’s the legislation mandating that multi-line telephone systems provide the right ‘dispatchable location’ on all E911 calls, something that cloud-based unified communications made more complicated than it was when a a phone number was associated with a particular copper wire connecting a known location. We delved into that topic a while back with Bandwidth’s Lydia Runnels.

DZS has made an inorganic move. The network solutions vendor has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Canada-based Optelian, which specializes in optical transport solutions. DZS will add that technology to its mobile backhaul portfolio and bring the expertise supporting it under its umbrella for future development. The deal also adds to DZS’s Tier 1 customer base in North America. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.

Mavenir and VIAVI are working together to help validate cloud native RAN technology in the US marketplace. The two are pairing VIAVI’s lab test platform with Mavenir’s software defined platform to help measure network performance in the budding 5G infrastructure it seems like everyone is helping to put together. The technology will work across multiple cells and RAN technologies.

And RtBrick has won over a major European customer to its FullStack IP/MPLS routing software. Deutsche Telekom has used it to connect its first live customer to its disaggregated broadband network in Stuttgart, Germany using the technology. The roll-out of RtBrick’s Open BNG software follows integration with DT’s operational support systems and an extensive testing period. RtBrick just last week announced support of the Telecom Infra Project’s Open BNG.
