Four bits of regional and metro infrastructure news worth noting from around the US:

Intelligent Fiber Network is putting $5.7M to work in Fort Wayne, Indiana. IFN is partnering with the City of Fort Wayne to power the city’s core network and working with Fort Waynbe Utilities and Allen County. The new fiber miles it is building out will empower the buildout of 5G across the region. The deal covers a fiber route back to Indianapolis as well as connectivity for six public safety locations.

Bandwidth IG and Colovore have teamed up in northern California. The partnership will combine Bandwidth IG’s metro dark fiber in the Bay Area with Colovore’s high performance colocation facility in Silicon Valley. The combination of dark fiber and high density colo space will be targeted toward customers looking at low latency AI and Big Data applications in within the region. Bandwidth IG operates 50 route miles in northern California and 40 more route miles in Greater Atlanta, while Colovore’s Santa Clara 9MW facility features power densities of 35-50KW per rack.

ADTRAN has picked up some business in rural Kentucky. Community Telecom Services is deploying ADTRAN’s TA5000 fiber access platform as part of an effort to reach previously underserved communities. CTS is a public utility serving the city of Monticello and Wayne County, which are located on the western edge of the Appalachians in the southern part of the state. The gear will be replacing legacy Huawei equipement and will enable the use of GPON technology to better connect a remote workforce. CTS will also be providing a high speed connection to a cooperative extension site of the University of Kentucky’s College of Agriculture.

And Consolidated Communications this week won some $58.9M in funding from the recent RDOF auction. They plan to use the funds to enable gigabit connectivity to some 300K homes and small businesses in 2021. They hope to extend fiber coverage to 70% of the company’s service area across the next 5 years. Consolidated recently did a refinancing via Searchlight Capital that frees up resources that will support the necessary investments.
