Int’l Bytes: DE-CIX, Orange Business, AT&T, Gold

I almost hesitate to check domestic news right now, but luckily there’s plenty of international items to keep up with:

DE-CIX has found a good way to close out 2020: establish yet another new internet exchange. This morning they announced a new IX in Barcelona, Spain, which will keep its other southern European IXs in Madrid, Lisbon, and Marseille company and connect directly up to their flagship hub in Frankfurt. The latest expansion will add depth to the company’s neutral interconnection portfolio and offer on-ramps to all the major clouds.

Orange Business Services has lined up a strategic partnership down under. They are teaming up with the NBN in Australia in order to add domestic managed services for the country’s enterprises. They’ve had a presence in the country for a long time of course, just like they do everywhere else. But now that presence will have some additional power and reach.

AT&T has won a cool convert to its SD-WAN services. The refrigeration specialist Epta Group has tapped the telecommunication giant’s technology for a new SD-WAN-powered network that will replace the company’s current IT environment. Epta is based in Milan and employs some 6000 people worldwide. They specialize on commercial refrigeration, not the one you probably have in your kitchen.

And Latin America has a new wholesale connectivity provider. Gold Telecom this week launched GoldConnect, which will target wholesale opportunities across South America, Central America, and the Caribbean. The effort will leverage the latest in automation to help companies meet the ever-growing appetite for bandwidth. There aren’t too many details beyond that, so we will have to see how things play out in the marketplace.
