Also new in the news this week: more interconnection, another edge data center, some backhaul, and a new hire:
Sparkle has lined up another interconnection partnership in its home turf of Italy. They have teamed up with TOP-IX, the Torino Piemonte Internet Exchange in the country’s northwestern city of Turin. They’ll be providing IP transit and transport solutions to the IX’s 120 member networks as they do out of eleven other European IX’s so far.
American Tower’s foray into the edge data center market is now online in another city. This week they announced that the company’s Austin location is officially tenant-ready. The site joins similar locations in Atlanta, Denver, and Boulder, with more on the way. The Austin facility is just 260 square feet with 100KW of power, 3 full cabinets, 8 customer cabinets, and 20 quarter-cabinet lockers.
Colt has won a big wireless backhaul deal over in the UK. Three UK has tapped Colt for fiber backhaul as part of its £2b plan to bootstrap its network up to 5G as well as increase 4G speeds by 150%. It’s a diversification move by Three UK, adding another major fiber provider to its toolbox of options.
And down in Florida, South Reach Networks has further beefed up its management team this week. They’ve hired industry veteran Kevin Rocks to take over as EVP of Sales & Marketing. Kevin was last with Cleareon in the New York metro area, which had acquired the assets of Pangaea Networks which he co-founded. South Reach is looking to aggressively expand its regional presence, having just bought the former Allied Fiber route along the coast from Resurgence in May.
