Missed this one late last week, but better late than never. Zayo on Friday revealed a substantial investment in its infrastructure in the state of Tennessee. In all, the company has or is in the process of boosting its fiber in the state by 50%.
Zayo has completed the build-out of 340 miles of new fiber in the Nashville metro area, bringing a few hundred buildings on-net. The company is also in the process of completing a new longhaul fiber route north from Nashville through Kentucky and up to Chicago, complementing their current routes to Atlanta and Dallas. On the latter route they have put in a new coherent wavelength system.
Along the way they’ve provided a dark fiber ring for a Nashville-based health system, and brought e-Rate connectivity to two large school districts in the state. In the eastern part of the state they will be bringing SH Data Technologies’ data center in Knoxville on-net, and in the southeast they have built out metro network in Chattanooga.
Much of this has been underway for a while of course, but Zayo has been relatively quiet about where it is putting its money to work over the past two years as it transitioned from publicly to privately held.
