Dark Fiber & Infrastructure has been busy constructing fiber and conduit in the state of Maryland lately. Today they offered an update on their progress toward an alternative route from Ashburn heading northeast.
After completing a new crossing of the Potomac last year, the company has been building eastward and has reached the intersection of Democracy Boulevard and Seven Locks Road in Potomac, Maryland. That adds another 16 miles of conduit and dark fiber to their infrastructure, and six times that much conduit – since that’s how many they are burying.
Next on the menu is an interconnection with the ultraMontgomery network, which will give various educational institutions and government entities new and direct access to the data centers of Ashburn. Then they’ll be turning more north, with an eye toward reaching Baltimore and creating a new path to Ashburn from the I-95 corridor that bypasses Washington D.C. entirely.
Helping with the actual construction is Down Under Construction, which is a subsidiary of Hylan of course, and with the engineering is Utilligen. DF&I received a majority investment from IPI Partners last month, giving them the capital to accelerate their buildout plans.
