Monday Bytes: Orange Business, Ericsson, MetTel, CyrusOne

One contract win in Europe, one in India, and two bits of regional government success in the US:

Orange Business Services has found another convert to its IoT solution. Haga Golf is using it to keep its golf courses greener by tracking moisture, temperature and oxygen levels via autonomous sensor monitoring. Haga Golf operates an 18+9 course in Oslo. Maintaining golf courses in Scandinavia through the winter has to be quite a chore.

Ericsson has sold some 5G-ready gear down in south Asia. Bharti Airtel is using their Cloud Packet Core across the company’s pan-India core network. The deployment will help Airtel handle growing mobile traffic levels and prepare, of course, for 5G. They are also leveraging Ericsson’s virtual Evolved Packet Gateway.

MetTel has been awarded a government contract in the state of New York. The NY State Office of General Services picked MetTel along with several others for its Centralized Contract for Telecommunication Connectivity Services, which is quite a mouthful. Basically, it’s a vehicle for selling a wide variety of stuff to state agenices, county organizations, etc over the next five years.

And CyrusOne’s northern Virginia data centers have qualified for tax incentives in Loudoun County. That means tenants at the data center REIT’s facilities will be exempted from sales tax payments on equipment deployed there. CyrusOne estimates a 10MW hyperscale deployment could save $50M or $20 per KW over the life of a contract.
