Thursday Roundup: Wholesail, INAP, STACK, CenturyLink, Hawaiki

It’s a short week, at least here in the US, but there’s still been plenty of news to catch up on:

There was a bit of under the radar M&A over the long weekend. Noel Communications has apparently been acquired by Wholesail Networks, which was founded by former Wave Broadband executive John van Oppen. There has been no PR but the switch was announced on Noel’s facebook page, and its website now points to Wholesale Networks. The company serves the infrastructure market in and around Washington, Oregon and the rest of the Pacific Northwest.

INAP has picked up an interesting multiyear deal for its bare metal environment. An unnamed multinational B2B search technology company is using the company’s NYC and Silicon Valley data centers now, supporting the infrastructure they’ve deployed in Dallas and Montreal. Meanwhile, it turns out that INAP is where former GTT CFO Mike Sicoli is going, as he is taking over as president and CFO effective October 1.

STACK Infrastructure has sold a bunch of colo space and power out in Hillsboro, Oregon. The cloud hosting provider Opus Interactive has added 100+ cabinets and 400kw of infrastructure to its portfolio, its second expansion in two years at the facility. STACK’s campus has some 24MW and 345K square feet in all currently, so there’s probably more where that came from.

CenturyLink has been busy adding to its channel strategy, launching an expansion over in the EMEA region. The expansion gives its North American partners more resources across the Atlantic and lets the company recruit new partners with whom they haven’t worked before. Seems like something they ought to have been doing already by this point, but better late than never.

And Hawaiki has sold a chunk of transpacific capacity to Vocus. According to reports, the Australian network operator has incorporated a substantial amount of capacity on Hawaiki’s cable system into its network and already has a large international customer using it. Hawaiki hooks up Australia and New Zealand with the western coast of the US via Hawaii.
