Macquarie Invests in Voneus

August 6th, 2019 by · Leave a Comment

Macquarie Group has found some new infrastructure to invest capital in. The investment company’s Macquarie Capital group will be putting £10m now and up to £30m over time into the UK fixed wireless provider Voneus.

Voneus is taking on the spots in the UK that don’t even have broadband yet, which spans as many as 900K households and businesses in the rural corners of the country. At the moment they reach some 4K homes and businesses in 25 communities, mostly in rural England and Wales.

They use fixed wireless tech to do the job currently, and will be able to accelerate those projects. But with Macquarie’s help Voneus will be rolling out fiber as well, at least to their more established markets.

Australia-based Macquarie has become one of the most active infrastructure investors in the game, putting money into fiber and such around the world.  Earlier this year they made a deal in the US for Bluebird and a piece of Uniti, and also recently won the auction for the UK provider KCom.
