A few items from around the industry and the world to keep up with:
Yesterday, Verizon launched its 5G Ultra Wideband services in four additional markets. The rollout in Washington DC, Atlanta, Detroit, and Indianapolis brings the company’s total to 9, within which any of five 5G enabled devices can now use the new tech. Verizon plans to bring its nascent 5G network to 30 cities by the end of the year. When they started back in October it was just for the home, but they are now ramping things up on the mobility front.
Flexential today announced the renewal of a laundry list of certifications and assessments from third party auditors. The items include ISO 27001, HITRUST, PCI DSS, SOC 1, SOC 2, SOC 3, FISMA Moderate, and ITAR, and apply across all 40 data centers in the company’s footprint as well as its cloud operations. This summer the company has also been working on expansions in Portland, Nashville, and Charlotte.
And over in Spain, Lyntia has received regulatory approval to acquire the dark fiber assets of Iberdrola. A number of conditions were attached, such as an agreement to offer reasonable access to the entire Spanish footprin for 5 years and to leave existing contractual terms in place with extensions to 10 years. Lyntia is owned by Antin Infrastructure Partners, and after completing this deal will have some 30,000km route miles in Spain with another 5,000km planned this year.
