Late last week, CenturyLink unveiled some new infrastructure plans for southern Florida. They are adding a new network gateway and data center in Miami, with construction starting this September and plans to move in next summer.
Readers will recall a few weeks ago when news emerged that CenturyLink had bought a significant building in the Allapattah neighborhood of Miami, specifically a 1.4 acre site at 1101 and 1109 NW 22nd Street upon which exists a 90K+ square foot industrial building. That’s the structure they are putting a new data center and gateway into.
According to CenturyLink, the site sits on one of the highest points in the city, which is adnittedly not a particularly high bar but nevertheless a good thing in a city vulnerable to the occasional hurricane. It’s a mile or so away from a key network access point and will have connectivity via three longhaul fiber routes.
Miami, of course, is a key network gateway between North America and destinations across Latin America.
