This week a new multi-market data center provider launched. STACK INFRASTRUCTURE, which apparently is allied with the gremlins trying to wear out my caps lock key, is the brainchild of IPI Partners.
A few quarters ago, IPI Partners bought the remaining three data centers of Infomart, which had previously sold the Dallas Infomart to Eqinix. Those make up half of STACK’s initial footprint, the rest coming from elsewhere in IPI Partners’ portfolio. That puts STACK in seven facilities in six markets initially: San Jose, Hillsboro, Ashburn, Atlanta, Chicago, and Dallas. In total, there is 1.5M square feet of space and over 100MW of power in that portfolio.
But it’s not just a repackaging of existing assets, STACK is also taking over a project that IPI Partners and Hillwood were working on down in Texas. They are planning the development of a hyperscale data center campus at AllianceTexas in northern Fort Worth. AllianceTexas is a broader development project by Hillwood with some 400 acres of space dedicated to data centers. Exactly what STACK will be building out there isn’t clear yet but I’m sure we will be hearing more about that later.
