Here’s a quick rundown on some infrastructure news from the metro this week:
FirstLight Fiber added another customer this week in the education vertical. The Saratoga Springs School District has signed on for both internet and voice services to keep its 1,100 faculty/staff and 6,422 students connected. FirstLight’s fiber network already reaches through the region on the way northeast from Albany into Vermont.
Equinix is expanding its London footprint, something it of course does periodically. In this case they have an expansion planned for their LD4 facility in Slough that will add 1,075 cabinets within 3,300 square meters of new space for some $39M. The buildout is aimed at the financial vertical and should be ready in Q4 of this year.
Colo Atl has another tenant at its 55 Marietta Street data center. Arizona-based Broadband Dynamics is bringing its commercial voice network into town, establishing a foothold at the facility and within the meet-me area. BBD anticipates upgrading that foothold to a PoP in response to anticipated growth.
And XKL has won a high profile deal in the DC metro area. The Smithsonian Institution is using XKL’s DarkStar DWDM gear to upgrade its network, which connects its HQ with the colo presence it has at Equinix out in Ashburn. The upgrade doubles the capacity of the current solution at half the cost while simplifying configuration.
