Kao Data Launches in London

February 16th, 2018 by · Leave a Comment

London got a new data center recently.  Kao Data has opened its first facility in the London metro area, specifically in Harlow.

That’s a suburb to the northeast of the city, for those too lazy to check a map.  According to the company, it’s closer to the center of London than Slough and even closer to the Docklands area.

Kao London One is the first of four data centers planned to be built on the campus, providing 2.2MW of customer-ready technical space within an 8.8MW powered shell.  When complete, the $200M buildout will feature some 150,000 square feet of technical space.

Kao Data is a new name to me, and in fact is a brand new entrant into the wholesale data center market in the UK.  It is named after Sir Charles Kuen Kao, one of the pioneers of fiberoptic communications  and winner of a Nobel prize for physics in 2009.
