EdgeConneX has found some new territory at the network edge in which to replicate its data center model. This morning they have announced their first data center in the southern hemisphere, putting down a few roots in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
They are working with Silica Networks, the Argentina Investment and Trade Promotion Agency (AAICI), and a suite of other regional ecosystem partners that includes Claro Argentina, Internexa, IPLAN, Metrotel, and Telecom Argentina, EdgeConneX plan to open a multi-tenant Edge Data Center at Parque Industrial Pilar that will serve as a robust connectivity and peering platform.
Over the last few years, EdgeConneX has developed a foothold over in Europe to go with its national US presence. But a move into South America represents something a bit different. They see the market for interconnection at the edge there as underserved, and are moving in to fill the vacuum. It may not be their only move into the region either, as a quick perusal of the company’s website has Santiago, Chile possibly on the menu as well.
