Here’s a bit more consolidation activity for the start of this week, this time over in Europe. The UK-based pan-European network operator RETN has announced the completion of a deal for OPTRON SIA.
OPTRON SIA operates metro fiber in Riga, the capital of the Baltic country of Latvia. The acquired infrastructure connects 270 buildings and 80 business centers, giving RETN coverage in its ninth metro area – the others being London, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Berlin, Warsaw, Kiev, Moscow, and St. Petersburg — into which Riga fits quite nicely. I haven’t found a map for OPTRON’s footprint yet, so if anyone has one feel free to link to it in the comments.
RETN has certainly seen its reach influence growing over the last few years, and I wonder if they might be in the market for some additional inorganic consolidation. Certainly they could use some fiber infrastructure to fill out their leased footprint in the southern half of the European marketplace if they could find some for sale, and I’m sure they’d be interested in some breadth in the UK and Ireland as well if it were available.
