One data center launch, some new hires in metro fiber, a new office in central Asia, and some interconnection milestones:
Equinix has formally opened yet another IBX data center in Silicon Valley. SV10 is located at its Great Oaks campus in San Jose and cost some $125M to build out. The initial phase adds 37,000 square feet of colo space to Equinix’s footprint. When complete it will support 2,820 cabinets.
Southern Telecom is bringing on some additional sales muscle. They’ve brought in Michael Lamar and Michael “Mickey” O’Kelley as carrier account executives to help with the company’s southeastern expansion.
Wilcon is taking aim at the channel. They have appointed industry veteran Rex Lehman as Channel Sales director to help accelerate revenue growth. Wilcon is part of Crown Castle now, of course, though it’s still operating independently pending whatever integration plans Crown Castle has for its growing list of fiber acquisitions.
RETN is expanding its footprint in central Asia. The European-based global network operator has established an office in Almaty, Kazakhstan. The expansion is part of the launch efforts of RETN and its partner Transtelecom of the TRANSKZ system, a terrestrial connection between Europe and Hong Kong.
And DE-CIX has seen new peak traffic at three of its exchanges. Their Frankfurt exchange reached 5.88Tbps on Tuesday evening, while Madrid surpassed 54Gbps and Dubai rang up over 80Gbps at almost the same time. NYC peering traffic didn’t quite set a new record, but also surged above 240Gbps this week. New Apple devices seem to have been the driver, and the expected roll-out of iOS 11 may boost DE-CIX Frankfurt above 6Tbps for the first time.
