Wednesday Bytes: CenturyLink, FiberLight, CoreSite, Connected2Fiber

An update on the CenturyLink/Level 3 deal, some new fiber and cloud connectivity, and an SaaS adoption:

CenturyLink’s planned acquisition of Level 3 is taking a slight detour.  The closing of the deal has been pushed back by a few weeks and will now be in mid-late October.  The two companies are awaiting approval from the regulators at the FCC, DOJ, and the state of California.  The deal was originally announced in the middle of last October, so the process will have come the full 12 months.  The integration awaits.

Along with a newly minted COO, FiberLight has expanded its network into a new data center.  They have completed construction of new fiber hooking up the Crosspoint Data Center in College Station, Texas.  Crosspoint Data is a new data center built from a renovated and repurposed Verizon central office.

CoreSite’s cloud connectivity options expanded slightly this week.  The data center REIT announced yesterday that AWS Direct Connect is now available via the company’s Open Cloud Exchange in Chicago.  CoreSite’s Chicago data center, CH1, sits next to the Board of Trade downtown.

And Connected2Fiber has gained another convert for its SaaS solutions.  Stratus Network has adopted the company’s Building List Manager and Connected World platform to help keep track of and leverage their network assets.  Stratus will leverage the new capabilities to help accelerate its sales cycle across its national footprint.
