Friday has lately been Zayo’s favorite day to announce deals with unnamed customers, and today they revealed another one over in Europe. A global webscale company has selected Zayo to connect data centers in Dublin and Amsterdam.
The route bypasses London using the assets of the former Geo Networks and Viatel assets. Geo had connectivity across Wales to the cables across the Irish Sea. Meanwhile Viatel’s network had two crossings between the UK and the continent, one of which stretches from near Lowestoft directly to the Netherlands. Put those two together along with some fiber north of London, and Zayo can supply a bypass route between the Irish and Netherlands capitals.
As for the webscale company, Dublin and Amsterdam are popular data center hubs these days so there are quite a few candidates. For that matter, Zayo will probably have more than one of them on the same route before long. Webscale players are definitely in the market for diverse routing these days.
