Int’l Bytes: Interxion, Sparkle, Orange, Tampnet

Here are a few customer wins from across the Atlantic that are worth noting:

Interxion picked up two high profile tenants in continental Europe this week. NTT Communciations has opened a PoP at the Interxion Science Park in Amsterdam, boosting its Benelux presence further and establishing connections with the R&E destinations SURFsara and Nikhef. And Yahoo! has expanded its European network in the south and east with a presence at Interxion facilities in both Vienna and Marseille.

Sparkle has signed a framework agreement with the GEANT research and education network. They will providing cloud solutions as an Original Service Provider for GEANT in 12 countries and a reseller of AWS in another 18 countries. The deal includes service authentication through eduGAIN and direct network peering with Sparkle’s own data centers.

Orange Business has won a four year contract with Heraeus. Orange will be modernizing Heraeus’s global network, bringing it all under one umbrella. That includes connectivity to 110 locations around the world and of course access to the cloud. Heraeus is a German technology group with €12.2 billion in revenues.

And last week, Tampnet revealed another customer out in the North Sea. Statoil has tapped the offshore network operator for connectivity to the Johan Sverdrup oil field, which lies 140 kilometers west of Stavanger, Norway, under about 110-120 meters of water. Tampnet has been looking to leverage its undersea assets in the North Sea between the UK and Scandinavia into a broader connectivity asset, and has added endpoints in key data centers on both ends and most recently in Amsterdam.
