According to a press release his morning, Windstream has plans for a significant metro expansion in Knoxville, Tennessee. The company will be adding both fiber and fixed wireless infrastructure in an effort to expand services to the area’s business community.
Windstream’s showcase customer for this particular expansion is the University of Tennessee, which has its main campus in Knoxville serving 28K students with 8K faculty and staff.
Last summer Windstream announced a similar expansion in Nashville to the west. There has been a stream of similar announcements since then, as the company continues to add metro fiber depth in markets beyond the company’s ILEC footprint. They are also adding longhaul routes out west as well as integrating the fiber from EarthLink.

I haven’t seen their Chicago expansion hit their map yet.
Knoxville is in Tennessee, not Kentucky.
Sorry about that, hallucination. I blame Trump.
Shhh… don’t tell them but most of us think its the same state anyway
