The global data center giant Equinix is making an inorganic move in the Alpine nation of Switzerland. In a deal that will augment its Swiss footprint without the need to build from scratch, Equinix has agreed to acquire the data center business of ICT-Center AG.
The deal will see Equinix acquire ICT-Center’s Zurich facility, which was originally built back in 2006 and is next door to Equinix’s existing ZH2 and ZH4 facilities. The newly purchased facility will be simply added to ZH4 rather than adding a separate new building to the 4-facility campus. It will add 230 cabinets to their inventory, of which 60 cabinets are sold.
It’s not an expensive deal for Equinix, costing them less than $5M, and should close in April.
Yesterday we saw Interxion also make an inorganic move, acquiring a data center in an existing market.
