The market for ultra-low latency connections doesn’t get the press it used to, but it’s definitely still there. Today Avelacom took the wraps off a new DWDM route between London and Moscow, cutting the RTT latency by a bit over 2 milliseconds while adding new PoPs along the way.
The new route passes through the key European cities of Amsterdam, Bremen, and Helsinki. Between the German and Finnish PoPs it leverages Cinia’s new C-Lion cable through the Baltic Sea. Then it leverages Avelacom’s fiber network for the last leg through Russia. In all, they deployed 900km of terrestrial fiber to make it happen.
The latency is now below 35ms RTD, besting the 37.1ms the company had built out years before.
