No big headlines to talk about yet this late-August Monday morning, but a few smaller ones worth noting:
On the US metro front, WANRack has picked up another E-Rate deal on Colorado’s front range. They have been chosen to build a fiber-based WAN for the Eaton School District, which lies just to the east of Fort Collins in the northern part of the state. The district serves just under 2,000 students across three elementary schools, a middle school, and a high school.
Down under, Equinix’s newest Australian data center is ready for prime time. They’ve officially opened SY4, a $97M facility on the company’s Sydney campus with some 135,000 square feet. Initial tenants include Servers Australia, Zettagrid, Connectivity IT, and the Grex Group, while TPG and Vocus also have PoPs there. In addition, the new Hawaiki cable will be using it as one of its endpoints.
And, over in the UK, CityFibre and its partners have been getting ready for the buildout of their Gigabit City project in the Scottish city of Glasgow. CityFibre partner HighNet has invested £250,000 in its first location in the region at the Beacon on St. Vincent Street. The actual fiber buildout is still ahead though, with connections to start going live next year.
