Yesterday, the Department of Defense awarded contracts worth up to $4.3B to a group of telecommunications carriers and systems integrators. Artel, AT&T, BT, CenturyLink, GTT, CapRock, Level 3, and Verizon Business stand to pick up some significant federal business.
It’s a 10 year, multiple-award, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity purchase of telecommunications network solutions and services for DISA’s enterprise-level infrastructure. It’s primarily focused on regions outside the USA. Beyond that, there aren’t many details to be had. But you can be sure that security services will be as important as actual physical infrastructure.
The selected companies will have to compete for the actual task orders as they come up, so other than a minimum guarantee of $500, nobody has actually won anything yet. But it’s got to be good to be on the list. The three US incumbents and one British are no surprise, nor is Level 3 which has been competing hard in the federal space for years. GTT is in some interesting company though, with perhaps the most to gain on a relative basis.
