Yesterday saw a small item of data center M&A over on the other side of the Atlantic. VIRTUS Data Centres has announced the purchase of the company that owns and operates the Slough Data Centre of Infinity SDC Limited.
The purchase will take VIRTUS into what has become one of the key data center concentrations in the London metro area. Slough lies to the west of London out beyond Heathrow, with access to plentiful space and power and of course all the necessary fiber. The now former Infinity data center has been rebranded as VIRTUS’s London 4 facility, their third operational facility so far. London 3 is still being developed, with an eye on launch in 2017.
The deal follows an investment earlier this year by Singapore’s ST Telemedia, which bought 49% of the VIRTUS. Clearly they have found something to do with some of those funds. I wonder if they have further inorganic expansions in mind.
For its part, Infinity SDC still owns four data centers in the region, and will focus on accelerating the development of its London projects. They are currently building out Infinity Stratford at Hear East, the former Olympic Press and Broadcast Center, where they will launch some 100,000 square feet of technical space sometime next year.
